I’m 24 and thinking of preparing for SSC CGL seriously, but I feel completely lost and honestly a bit scared to start.

I’m a graduate and I’ve been thinking a lot about government jobs lately because I want stability, financial independence, and a proper career direction. The thing is, I don’t come from a background where people guide you step-by-step about exams and careers, so I’m trying to figure everything out on my own.

I keep overthinking questions like:

Is 24 too late to start SSC preparation seriously?

Is SSC CGL realistically crackable for an average student?

How many hours do serious aspirants actually study daily?

Should I join online coaching or prepare from YouTube/books first?

Which coaching is genuinely worth it and not just marketing?

How long does it realistically take to become exam-ready?

One thing is that I’m actually pretty comfortable with Maths, Reasoning, and English compared to many people. But I’m weak in consistency and I don’t know how to structure preparation properly. General Awareness also feels overwhelming because I don’t know where to start.

Every time I think about starting, I get confused because there are SO many teachers, apps, courses, strategies, timetables, book lists, and everyone says something different. It feels like if I choose the wrong strategy, I’ll waste a whole year.

I also sometimes feel insecure seeing people who started preparing at 19–20 while I’m beginning at 24. I know 24 isn’t “old,” but mentally it still makes me anxious that I’m behind in life.

I want honest advice from people who have prepared for SSC or cleared it:

How should a COMPLETE beginner start?

Which subjects should I focus on first?

Which online coaching actually helped you?

What mistakes should beginners avoid?

How many months of serious prep are usually needed?

Is 5–6 hours daily enough in the beginning?

What would you do differently if you started again?

I’d genuinely appreciate practical advice instead of motivational lines. I really want to give this my full effort but I need clarity before I jump in seriously.

Thank you.
