a while ago i installed fedora 43 and installed the game from steam, and the launcher is extremely laggy no matter which proton version i use. this didn't happen before when i had linked the old windows install to steam and pointed steam to it, both the launcher and the game worked fine, but i uninstalled the game for a while, and when i did a fresh install directly from steam on linux, every time i launch the game, the launcher will eat 26% GPU usage, and the system will be extremely laggy. even moving the mouse cursor looks like a slideshow.
The game itself works fine like before, but leaving the launcher open so that it downloads updates makes the computer basically completely unusable as long as the launcher is open. closing the launcher or pressing play makes everything smooth again.
today i installed fedora 44 kde from scratch, wiped the entire drive for this, and i downloaded steam again, and gw2, and the same thing happened, regardless of what proton version i use.
does anyone else experience a similar thing?
if it matters, my computer uses a radeon rx 7600 gpu, and, again, the game runs fine, it's just a problem with the launcher.
