Deciding between Navy and Air Force for aircraft mechanic (yes I know this is an Air Force page). Both recruiters haven’t been the best (especially my Air Force recruiter), that’s why I decided to post and get some insight.

Please tell me everything about Air Force, Deployments, quality of life, family (specifically having kids and spouse), certifications, civilian life after/jobs after? Any information is much appreciated, definitely been a hard decision 🙏

Currently in a pretty tough decision with deciding between the two branches. The main problem is my Air Force recruiter not only gives me a weird vibe, but I’ve heard that right now AF recruiters are just lying to get people to join, which I lowkey feel like that’s what he’s doing. I definitely don’t want to be military police either, which is what I’ve heard everyone is getting rn with AF. Ik AF you need good scores for good jobs and every practice test I’ve taken I’ve gotten above 70s, so is worrying about getting a police job even necessary? Navy is a second option, which my gf sister ended up going that route, but the deployments sound horrible especially with a gf. We’ve done long distance basically from the beginning so i think we’d be able to manage, but I’ve heard that deployments can be way longer compared to AF. Navy I’ve heard very mixed opinions about as well, which hasn’t been the most helpful in my situation to hear. At this point both recruiters I’ve talked to aren’t necessarily the best help, so any advice and suggestions is much appreciated 🙏

(Posting this for my boyfriend because he doesn’t have Reddit, that’s why the username is kinda feminine lol)
