Hey guys,
I’m finally looking to get into Europa Universalis, but I’m torn. I’ve sunk ungodly amounts of hours into CK3 and HoI4, and I’m also a big Age of Wonders fan. So I’m definitely not new to the Paradox grind, but EU is still a blank spot for me.
My main issue: I tried to love Victoria 3, but I just can't deal with how abstract it is. I hate making a move and then waiting forever just to wonder if my decision actually mattered or if some random background sim just took over. I want that direct agency back.
Since EU5 has been out for about half a year now, I’m wondering:
Is it worth jumping straight into the new one? I love the idea of the 1337 start and the deeper systems, but I’ve heard people complaining about the UI being a mess and typical launch-year bugs. On the flip side, EU4 is obviously "finished," but does it feel like a chore to learn the old UI in 2026?
Which one feels more "hands-on" and rewarding for someone who loves the direct control of HoI4 and the depth of CK3? Should I just get EU4 or go all-in on EU5?
Cheers!
