It’s only gotten worse.
Went shooting for the first time this year. My usual spot because it’s the closest to my house. Made a post last year about the heaps of garbage at the spot and it’s only gotten twice as bad. Had a guy come to the spot and tell us that he had been told by a friend that it’s going to be shut down very soon. He also said that he has come by and collected 14 POUNDS OF BRASS to recycle and barely cleaned up the place. A place very close by was already shut down a few years ago because of the same reasons and having this place shut down too would not be unjustified. I am unbelievably disappointed and disgusted by this. There were car doors, frying pans, steel targets, antifreeze jugs, pop cans, cardboard boxes and other garbage, littered everywhere. There were 2 deer carcasses nearby that had been shot at (although they could’ve died by lead poisoning, who’s to say) there were tree cut down by gunfire fire facing THE ROAD. This is an unbelievably bad look for our community.
If anyone living near Calgary would be willing to help clean up the place, that would be fantastic. I know almost everyone on this subreddit respects the land they shoot on, so this is not a reflection of us personally. If we can find some people that would be willing to go out and clean up, I and the people who enjoy this hobby would be more than appreciative. There are dozens of steel targets out there that are perfectly good to use (I’ve found over 15) if you want an incentive to go out there, there’s free steel to repurpose.
Please don’t let our hobby get shut down.
