Like the title says, I recently got one of my dream spiders (T. seladonia) and everything seems to be going swimmingly so far. I’m adding 4-5 fruit flies every 2-3 days, per the breeders instructions (they escape the damn enclosures holes, so that’s why I do so often). I keep a small centrifuge tube buried in the substrate for water, no misting etc.

I added some shredded sphagnum moss and some shavings of cork bark in there as well to help with its trap door, but so far after 15 days (not much I know), I’m not seeing any signs of a trap door. Is this typical? The cork bark piece in its small enclosure has multiple holes drilled in it, and the T DOES go into one of the holes and hangs out for long periods of time, but no sign of a web lol.

What’s a typical acceptable time frame for the trap door being formed? Are there any downsides if it isn’t making one? Anything I can do to help? I’m not super stressed, as long as the T is content!

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!!

Well I finally took the plunge! A year ago I wanted to get this as my first T but after doing some research and hearing how fragile they can be as slings I decided to wait and start with another T. I ended up getting a C. versicolor because I knew the care would be some what similar and it would be a great intro. I’ve learned a lot and have had really good success with my C. versicolor, including moving it to a larger enclosure recently!

One year later and my little baby T. seladonia was delivered!! I cannot understate my surprise at how crazy small this sling is lol. I mean I knew when I ordered it that it would be pretty small but I guess it just didn’t click in my mind 🤷🏼‍♂️

So far they’re doing pretty good; I have it in a small vial with coir and tree fern fiber as a substrate, as well as a piece of cork bark with pre-drilled holes and a small centrifuge tube for water. I’m keeping it bone dry besides the water tube, my T’s are kept in my grow tent with all my tropical plants so they stay around 82% humidity 24/7. I’m feeding it beheaded and de-limbed crickets for now, my fruit fly culture arrives tomorrow so that’ll be the new staple diet until it’s ready for small red runner roaches.

The first two days it was hiding in one of the pre-drilled holes in the cork bark and now it’s spent two days in the top of the cork bark in a small crevice. No signs of a trapdoor being made just yet, but I do have finely shredded sphagnum moss in there to provide some material for when they’re ready.

I would love to hear any tips or care experiences people have had with this species so feel free to leave any advice!! Thanks for looking.

Edit:: everyone send their hopes and good vibes that this turns out to be a little lady 😂🤞🏽
