Visiting West Virginia (Charleston) for the first time in August with my girlfriend. Love music, hiking, and history. What are some things we should see?

We are already gonna go see the Kanawha State Forest. Was wondering about nice possible areas to camp nearby, music venues, or historical things we could see. She really likes history and ghosts, too.

We don't currently have a car. That will make traveling around WV more difficult, but I'm the kind of person who would pay what I needed for ride-sharing/Lyft if at all possible.

Appreciate any responses.

Lost count of how many times some driver has knocked the walk/don't walk button off this pole.

I've always been drawn to rural or middle sized cities. I don't have a driver's license and know that I will need to pass the test and maintain a car if I want to participate in society there. It really bothers me!

Are there any places with a great music scene in the US where a person can live car free?

I'm traveling to Chico from Ukiah on Friday. What is just under a three hour drive in a car becomes an 11+ hour travel day on Amtrak that gets me there after 1 AM after delays.

Public transit connecting to all cities in the Sacramento Valley would be beneficial. This schedule is costly and otherwise inconvenient.
