It is PLO8 and it is a big pot (for our game). On river, Villain checks and I put him all-in. Villain thinks for a couple of minutes and I am praying for a fold since I have a weak hand. Villain then calls clock on himself to force him to make a decision. Weird but whatever.

Dealer (not a professional) takes out his phone and starts the stopwatch at 30 seconds. The buzzer goes off and Villain says he calls. The dealer said it was too late and says I win. Villain said that is bs and that he called and had the best hand. He is adamant he said call on the buzzer.

Pandemonium ensues. Everyone has different opinions.

It is determined eventually that we just split the pot.

A fist fight nearly breaks out with one of the players screaming at the Villain that he should be grateful he is getting half. That player immediately left the game.

Terrible vibe the remainder of night. The host was so bothered by the negative energy that he cancelled the game for the next couple of weeks so everyone could cool off.

What is the correct ruling?

Player will say when action is to him ‘250’ pause and say “when America was founded’. Or ‘42’ pause ‘was ‘Jackie Robinson’s number’. And then fold.

I assume in a casino that the number he announced would be binding action.
