Title. After analysing 1,000+ interviews, here's what stood out for tech and business roles specifically:

GPA: Does it actually matter? Yes, more than you think.

  • 3.7+ = 41% offer rate
  • 3.3 - 3.6 = 30% offer rate
  • 2.9 - 3.2 = 14% offer rate
  • 2.5 - 2.8 = 11% offer rate

You'll always hear people say grades don't matter. Sure, once you get a full-time job that may be true but internships are no doubt checking transcripts.

Most common technical skills mentioned:

  1. SQL - 8.0%
  2. Python - 4.3%
  3. Java - 2.0%
  4. Excel - 1.9%
  5. DSA - 1.8%

The majority of people grinding leetcode fail when it comes to a simple database question. SQL is being asked in interviews 2x as much as Python.

Past internships compound hard:

  • 0 past internships - 9% offer rate
  • 1 past internship - 19% offer rate
  • 2 past internships - 28% offer rate
  • 3+ past internships - 40% offer rate

Numbers speak for themselves, the first one is always the hardest.

Those of you applying for Summer 2027, do your research before blindly applying.
