Hello everyone, I have an 01 3.8 automatic (convertible, if that makes a difference) and I have been trying to chase an electrical gremlin that has plagued my engine for a time. While I agree that the motor should be replaced, that’s not in the current budget and wondering if anyone could help.
Story time! So I made the mistake of driving through a puddle on the passenger side that was deeper than expected and soon after, issues arose. After shotgunning a NUMBER of new parts (see below)
New-
MAF, FRPS, IACV, fuel sending unit with new pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, FPDM, and spark plugs
The issue is erratic idling. Sometimes after about 30 minutes of driving it will bog down enough to have a HEAVY HESITATION before acceleration (of which I can remedy by neutral shutoff and restart which amazingly restarts the engine like new and decides it doesn’t want to hesitate any longer)
The issue is I am at my wits end almost. I have a full mechanical diagnostic book. I can give the link in the comments and it is honestly something lengthy that when I start chasing it, I get sidetracked by possible symptoms that are also plagues that I can’t ever get it resolved. Every time I restart it’s as if it doesn’t remember what was happening. (No it’s not clearing the codes as electrical issues all show everything at the battery level is working and codes are staying consistent. Down below is a list of my current live feed of OBD2 basic model. I have electrical testing experience, but can’t seem to follow a map given by ford.
Live feed at idle:
MAF: 0.7 lb/min
SHRTFT1: -20
SHRTFT2: -20
FRP: 66.6
Long story short. If anyone can recommend how to voltage test the PCM to determine if needed to replace that would be awesome.
