My parents divorced when I was very young. Even after the divorce, my father still financially supported me and my siblings (college fees, etc...), but I never had any relationship with his side of the family and had never really met them.
Recently, I started visiting my father casually, mainly just to spend time. Over the past weeks, many members of his family have suddenly shown interest in meeting me and my siblings, and now we’re visiting their family house.
Nothing bad has happened so far, they seem welcoming. But it feels strange because these people are technically family yet also complete strangers. I don’t know if I should embrace this connection, stay cautious, or question why this is happening now after 20 years.
Has anyone gone through something similar with estranged family reconnecting later in life. What red flags should I watch for? Give me good feedback please :)
