So due to the penny shortage, my store stopped receiving pennies entirely since around early March. Now, our cash registers automatically do a round up/round down of your total to the nearest .0 or .5 if you don't pay in exact change.
This ONE old lady, who has been regularly in our store SINCE THE CHANGE decided to check her receipt and threw a fit over.....not getting 2 entire pennies back. She then claimed that we've been 'stealing her money this whole time while our CEO makes millions'.
It took a good few minutes of pointing at the various signs we have around the registers and explaining the penny shortage in general (because I guess she had no idea about it??? Somehow???) but she seemed to get it in the end...I think.
She just said that she'd start paying with a card from now on so we don't 'continue to mug her'.
Honestly, I'm just glad she didn't ask for a manager or for me to open my drawer. But how do you go nearly 2 months of us counting back change to you without realizing that we don't have pennies anymore? Our signs aren't just for decoration! 😭
