I've had a room in a shared flat with LifeX for a while now. They always had a one month notice period for lease terminations, which was one of the main reasons I joined them. Plenty of people have come and gone with one month notice, so it was clearly never an issue.
At the beginning of the year, they transferred the shares of their german GmbH to another company called Hamrish, run by the same people who ran Kummuni before it got liquidated in late 2025 (and who, according to Google reviews, went radio silent when it came to returning security deposits). The company behind everything is actually just a holding shell in Luxemburg called Paarmiss.
Without warning they stopped honoring the one month policy, which they can do from a purely contractual perspective, but could be legally disputed on a variety of levels. They also fired the maintenance guy and haven't handled anything since the takeover, including not fixing things which have already been paid for by tenants.
I'm thinking of filing a complaint with the Verbraucherzentrale and possibly contacting the Mieterverein to try to prevent them from doing things like this again.
Has anyone had experience with either company or with the Verbraucherzentrale?
