as far as i know they only cling on their hosts but do not actually drink blood or get sustenance ditectly from their hosts. ive read somewhere that they are parasites. are they really? if yes, is it because the hosts are harmed? if no, what is their relationship with their hosts?

I asked because my late mom’s marble kitchen pestle broke, with about an inch missing from the end of the pestle. I originally planned to glue it back, but my dad accidentally threw away the broken piece.
The mortar and pestle are precious to me for sentimental reasons, so I started thinking about attending a ceramics workshop to repair the pestle. My idea was to recreate the missing end piece and fuse it to the remaining marble pestle in the kiln.
Would that even be possible? I saw a video of a ceramicist using marble dust in glazing, which made me wonder if kiln temperatures could damage or even melt the marble pestle itself.
Another idea I had was to make only the missing end piece separately and then glue it onto the pestle afterward. I also heard that clay shrinks when fired in a kiln. I wonder if the shrinkage would be substantial enough that the pieces would no longer fit properly.
