District ABA won't use a communication board
Student was just approved for a robust device and we have been working on using a communication board with the layout that his home page will be with lots of core words ALL year. Student is middle school in the contained life skills class.
I've been working with the district ABA team to use the communication board in their sessions when requesting sensory input like hand squeezes or breaks by using more and all done and want. I have also been modeling other things like commenting with his core board as well. Went in today and they refused to use it and are using only two pictures on a board for squeezes, and going back to class. I suggested even just using more or all done because that can be used in more contexts than this and they said no, having too many icons confuses student and that they've barely gotten student to reliably select squeezes and give it to them. ABA talked about how student had no communication when they started and now they've gotten student to at least communicate by doing this. Huh it's almost like nobody has been bringing his communication board or modeling signs or anything functional. Any advice to get aba to collaborate with me?
Sorry for the disorganization. I'm sad and frustrated. 30 more days in the school year.
