I (21) got a job thanks to a friend (21) who had already worked there. They were very well loved and respected, so naturally people talked to me because of the connection.
Now me personally, I’m the type to have to set aside personal down time especially after work and my friend was the complete opposite. We hung out a lot both inside of work, outside of work, and on top of that she would call me right after we’d get off of work every day lol. One day at work, after a night of me not answering a call, they addressed me about watching a previous love interests’ instagram story, and how he had told my friend that I was in their views.
The previous day my friend TOLD me to look at his profile because of how much it changed after they’d stopped talking. They watched me go through the whole motion of going through their old fling’s page. I was not interested at all, but I did put in my two cents lol. They then told me after addressing the story view, that I should’ve answered last nights call to defend myself. ??
Lunch Break rolls around and I take my 30 where I did a henna piece on myself. I finished quickly clocked out because I was excited to show my friend my piece. When I went up to her to show her what I did, they looked me in the face (while standing next to a coworker) and said “I’m not talking to you right now”. I asked them what I did and they ignored me. I asked twice more until I decided to go back to work and let them blow off steam. I was shocked because we didn’t even take break together and we hadn’t talked for the past 30 min.
A coworker of mine offered to buy me lunch to which he said go back to the break room in an hour to retrieve it. I go back to the break room and my friend is in there as well sitting with a team lead and another coworker. I go up to them and laid my elbow gently on their shoulder while they scrolled through Pinterest and expressed my interest in what she was looking at. She turned to me and leaned so far to the other side to the point where I wouldn’t have been surprised if she fell. The team lead asked me “dang *name* what did you do?” And I said idk, bc I asked and she truly never told me. I asked friend what I did again and they didn’t say a word at all. The coworker sitting at the table also asked me what I did wrong and ig for me that’s what did it.
I went back to work this time confused frustrated and angry rather than softhearted and caring because I’d tried to understand what the problem was so I could fix it but they wouldn’t even tell me what I did when I asked. They ignored me for the whole day, didn’t say bye to me after leaving like we normally do and didn’t say a peep to me for the rest of the day. The following afternoon I received a text from them saying “your 24 hours of shunning is over”. I didn’t reply because I honestly felt played with and disrespected. Cause what?????
The following day at work they came up to me like nothing happened but I ignored them and focused on my task while keeping my earphones tact. We haven’t spoken since and it’s been about 6-8 months since it’s happened. I want to talk but I can’t if they can’t even tell me the problem and since they never did tell me the problem I removed them from my find my, certain personal social media accounts and my inner circle. Did I overreact? Should I have given them more grace? AITAH?
