Bonjour à tous, j'espère que quelqu'un ici a déjà vécu une situation similaire.

J'ai un rendez-vous pour un visa étudiant au consulat français de Madrid le 21 mai prochain, pour une Licence 3 qui commence en septembre 2026. Mon problème : mon passeport marocain expire le 10 janvier 2027, ce qui ne couvre pas toute la durée du visa (généralement 1 an).

J'ai déjà envoyé une lettre au consulat expliquant la situation et détaillant toutes les démarches que j'ai entreprises : j'ai tenté de prendre rendez-vous au consulat marocain en Espagne mais aucun créneau n'était compatible avec mon RDV du 21 mai, et je me suis même rendue au Maroc pendant un mois pour renouveler sur place, mais j'ai rencontré des blocages administratifs.

Je prévois de renouveler mon passeport dès mon arrivée en France.

Mes questions :

• Est-ce que quelqu'un a déjà obtenu un visa étudiant avec un passeport expirant avant la fin de la durée du visa ?
• Est-ce qu'ils délivrent simplement un visa plus court (calé sur la date d'expiration du passeport) ou refusent-ils carrément ?
• Est-ce qu'envoyer une lettre explicative en avance aide vraiment, ou est-ce que la décision se prend uniquement sur place ?
• Mon garant financier est ma tante de nationalité espagnole, résidant en Espagne — est-ce que le garant doit obligatoirement résider en France ou l'Espagne est-elle acceptée ?
• Des conseils sur ce qu'il faut apporter ou dire au rendez-vous pour maximiser ses chances ?

I have a student visa appointment at the French consulate in Madrid on May 21st for a L3 program starting fall 2026. The problem is my Moroccan passport expires January 10, 2027, which doesn't fully cover the visa duration (usually 1 year).

I've already sent a letter to the consulate explaining the situation and detailing the steps I took to renew, I tried booking through the Moroccan consulate in Spain but there were no slots compatible with my appointment, and I even went to Morocco for a month to renew in person but ran into administrative delays there too.

I plan to renew my passport as soon as I arrive in France.

My questions:

• Has anyone had their student visa approved with a passport that expires before the visa end date?
• Will they simply issue a shorter visa (matching the passport expiry), or refuse outright?
• Does sending a letter in advance actually help, or do they typically decide on the spot?
• Any tips for what to bring or say at the appointment to strengthen my case?
