What type of bait

I was fishing tonight and the bass were feeding like crazy on these tiny 1 inch long minnows. I threw an sp minnow and a smaller 3 inch version of that lure, then poppers, and paddle tail but nothing really hit it very frequently. I caught one small 18 inch bass but then it was crickets the rest of the time despite the bass jumping in front of me the whole hour and a half. Any strategy or lure for fishing this situation or just is it just being patient?

Jig head weight

What weight jigs/ jig heads do you recommend guys recommend for paddle tails, bucktails, and slug-goes? I see people using 1/4 all the way up to 4-6 oz and I just don’t fully understand what is right for what situations.

Rod for Striper fishing

In the market to get the Daiwa Blackline 7’6 medium heavy for stripers. Just wondering peoples opinion on them from someone who may have or used the rod. I know it has a max lure weight of 6.5 oz for those heavier plugs, but does it also still have the ability to throw 1/2-1 oz slug-go and other soft plastics on its lighter end?

I already have a 9’ shimano speedmaster for my current reel, but I just got a van staal vr75 and I’m looking for a 7’6-8’ rod suggestion to pair it with. I mainly surf cast and fish from piers in CT.

I’m getting a Van Staal vr75 as I’m an avid surf fisherman in CT, but also want something small I can bring when I surf fish in Florida and the Bahamas. For Connecticut, I mainly target striped bass, bluefish, and albies. I was planning on pairing it with a medium heavy daiwa Blackline 7’6 rod. Since the spool is massive (430yd/20lb braid) I was planning on sizing up in line to 30lb braid, but want to maximize casting distance without having a ridiculous amount of line. I’m planning on using either daiwa j braid 30lb, which has been shown to break around 40lbs or the varivas avani PE 2.5 max power (~40lbs) but is much slicker for casting, both giving me around 300yds in the spool. Does anyone have any different rod/ line suggestions or even if this setup would be good for what I’m trying to catch?
