Hello!

I am redoing the attic insulation in our 1950s built house. I have removed all the old stuff and starting new.

I saw that I needed to use a minimum of R38 in the attic for my Zone, according to Title 24. I am just updating for my self and will not have it inspected.

My question is can I use the recommended r38 in my 2x6 rafter and let it stick out like 10 inches. Or use a r30 like rookwool and maybe stick out like 2? I don’t want blow in or spray foam. Strictly batts.

I have updated the roof to a cool roof, added ridge vents and also installing a gable fan. I will also be air sealing the attic to the living space
