Considering moving back to La Cañada — looking for honest parent perspectives
My family is considering moving back to La Cañada and I’d love some honest perspective from parents already in the school district.
For context, I grew up in Pasadena and also lived in La Cañada for a few years (without kids), so I’m very familiar with the general area and have always loved it. This isn’t coming from a place of judgment at all — more just genuine curiosity as a parent trying to figure out the right fit for our family.
I obviously know the schools are academically amazing, but I’m more curious about the actual culture/environment for kids growing up there. Does it feel grounded and well-rounded, or very intense/competitive starting young?
I think a lot about things like pressure, anxiety, status culture, social media, materialism, and bullying/social dynamics. I don’t care about having my kids in some hyper-elite environment if it comes at the expense of them feeling happy, balanced, included, and able to just be normal kids.
For parents already there — what has your experience honestly been like? Have you found the environment to generally be kind and healthy for kids socially/emotionally as well, or are there aspects that concern you?
