It's basically what the title says. We are about to win our 5th trophy in 2 years while spending 88 million in the last 2 years whereas our main domestic rivals have both spent 216.5 and 417.95 million respectively while maintaining a net negative on incoming and outgoings and ours is a positive. We are 5th domestically and 72nd world wide in terms of expenditure in the past two seasons. I know blindly spending money doesn't equal to trophies but correct expenditure leads to better chances especially in Europe where we have struggled in the past decade even when we are within 5 minutes from reaching the final. But clubs like Arsenal,Chelsea,PSG,Man Utd,City have spent more money than us in the 5 years and some are still struggling while some are reaping their benefits now . We are about to win our 5th trophy in two seasons with one of the most youngest squads in Europe which sure has gaps in it but has a very high ceiling and with the correct spending we will reach the top of Europe once again. But all through social media people are slandering our players who have consistenly put in great performances over time but are experiencing a dip in form or injury issues . If this slander was from rivals I wouldn't mind it but half of it is from our own fans . Just 5 years ago,we were on the verge of bankruptcy and mid table in la liga at a point. From there to where we are now people should be grateful IMO. I'm not saying to not criticize or accept mediocrity but constructive criticism is one thing and hating for the sake of it is another. Anyways, visca el Barca.
Barcelona are heavily linked with Alessandro Bastoni to fulfill the clubs need of a left footed center back. In my opinion he's a great asset offensively to create chances and in buildup play but he doesn't necessarily solve our defensive issues with our highline . Other teams that play the highline such as Bayern or PSG have better physical profiles at at the back who can compensate counters with their recovery pace at least half the time whereas in our case 95% of our chances lead to 1v1 s with Joan Garcia. Hence I really think Micky Van De Ven would be the ideal partner for Cubarsi as he is left footed ,strong in duels and one of the fastest center backs in all of Europe while still being good enough with the ball. Though I could be horribly wrong and Bastoni changes this clubs fortunes completely.
During our most succesful period from 2006 to 2015 we bought many players from La Liga i.e. Villa,Alba,Alves,Eto and co . Now we just don't capitalize enough like in the last 6-7 years if I'm not wrong we've only bought Jules Kounde and Joan Garcia and a couple stop gaps who never truly elevated the squad. Like for the center back position,Mosquera was available last summer but we were never linked to him . Even now there are oppurtunities like Espi,Moleiro,Ratiu,Carlos Romero etc who we aren't even linked with.
Our in possession structure is a back three that requires Jules to stay as the right sided centre back as our left back is required to hold width as neither Rashford or Rapha can hold on their own. That's why for all the people saying we need a more attacking right sided full back it wouldn't work unless they are some freak of god athlete. In PSG's case that's Nuno who stays back and depending on the situation he makes forward runs but he doesn't do them for the whole 90. In our case we have to deploy Cancelo or Balde as pseudo wingers to hold width that's why Jules creates a back three and our right side can be easily overloaded and thus Lamine finds himself in 3v1 or 4v1 situations
