What should I do, Is studying abroad still worth it if I plan to return to India?
I’m 20f, my_qualifications, almost in my 3rd year of BBA events & entertainment at a tier 2 city private universityin India. Honestly, I feel very confused about what I should do after graduation.
For the longest time, my dream was to study abroad for my master’s, mostly in countries where scholarships are possible and quality of life/exposure is better, like Germany or somewhere similar. A big reason isn’t just education, but also because I’ve always wanted to experience living abroad, meeting different people, and seeing a different culture for a few years.
Originally, I thought I would settle abroad too, but because of family reasons, I know now that I’ll eventually come back to India after my master’s.
Recently, I spoke to the founder/CEO of an app startup, who Mind u was an iim alumni and he told me that if my long-term goal is business, then doing an MBA abroad and coming back may not really be worth it. According to him, if I’m not planning to stay abroad permanently, I might be better off spending those years building something instead. He even said if I wanna do business I shouldn’t even do mba
That honestly made me question everything.
My second option has always been entrepreneurship. I do have a few business ideas and I genuinely like the idea of building something of my own. But I have no guidance, no mentor, and nobody in my family or extended family has a business background. I don’t even know where to properly start or how people actually go from “idea” to “real business.”
My third option is getting a job directly after graduation, maybe in Dubai or somewhere abroad for work experience, but I’m equally unsure about that path too it’s not easy and well i obviously want to pursue masters not sure if I should stay in India i don’t want to get education here tbh the academics here is not what I want
I know nobody can decide for me, but I’d genuinely appreciate advice from people who’ve been in similar situations especially people who studied abroad and returned to India, or people who started businesses without family connections or mentorship.
How did you figure out what path was right for you?
