I’m trying to book a ryokan in Kumamoto for my Japan trip, but I’m confused about Booking.com’s price match.

Booking shows the ryokan available for my dates, but Rakuten and some other Japanese sites either don’t show those dates that far ahead yet or don’t show the same room/meal plan options.

Booking is showing around $981 for 2 nights, but from what I’m seeing on Japanese sites, similar plans may be much cheaper with more details.

Has anyone actually used Booking.com’s price match for Japanese ryokan? Do they really honor it, or do they usually find a reason to deny it because the meal plan, taxes, room type, coupons, or currency conversion are slightly different?

Basically: is Booking’s price match actually useful here, or is it mostly something they advertise but make hard to use?
