My friend got engaged last month and shared with friends that she’s going to be having a destination wedding in the Bahamas. She asked me to be a bridesmaid and all I can think it about it how much of a financial burden I just said yes to. We all recently graduated college so money is tight. And the kicker is that the wedding is on a weekday meaning that the guests will have to take three days off work to attend.
She and her husband said that they want to have this destination wedding since none of their family members ever travel. I don’t understand why people who already aren’t travelers would enjoy traveling for someone else’s wedding? They think it will be a big family vacation but it’s only like that for them. My boyfriend was invited but can’t attend so I’m disappointed I’ll have to spend thousands to fly out and stay at a resort alone. On top of that, we are having a destination bachelorette, multiple showers, and have to pay for hair, makeup and dresses the day of.
She hasn’t booked officially and keeps asking me if I think it’s too much. Multiple people at her shower told me they would not be able to attend realistically. WIBTA if I was honest with the feedback or should I shut up, save up some money and put on a face for my friends special day?
