Domestic vioIence must end

She didn't deserve that and her husband & in laws are the real life monsters. She's pregnant and is being abused brutally still some people were like, "let's listen to her husband's story" Our country has numerous cases like her unfortunately. The worst thing is that most of the time these women don't even get help from the legal authorities and there are very less good social services, NGOs where these women can get help.

Some people were saying that because of husbands like that many married women in our country run away from their husband's home cuz they don't have other options to escape from such abusive marriages.

Our media also doesn't pay attention to these cases as much as the cases where the media gets the chance to moral police someone.

Earlier I used to be proud of the fact that India has 1% divorce rate, the lowest divorce rate in the world. I believed that families staying together no matter what is good. But later I realized that the 1% divorce rate is not because of strong family bonds, but because of the lack of freedom and choice our citizens have.

In this video, the woman is not financially independent and is dependent on her husband financially. But I've seen many cases, where financially independent women are also tolerating such abusive husbands and in laws. I was like why don't these women just take legal actions and get divorce since they're not financially dependent on anyone and I believed that our country is changing rapidly nowadays so it won't be an issue for them. I used to question why even the financially independent and rich citizens of our country are not taking divorce in case of broken marriages even in 2026 and why the divorce rate is still 1%. Then I learnt that in India it's very tough to get divorce even if you are financially independent. Our laws are very different from Western countries and since divorce is still a taboo in our country that's why even the legal authorities aren't that supportive in that matter and they try to make the couple stay together. Also that many single mothers after divorce find it harder to get rent and they often get no support from their own family and the society. Our society is not gonna change that fast and it's gonna take a long time for that.

As I grew older I realised that kids cut contacts with their parents for a reason and send them to old age homes. Some kids cut contacts with their parents when their parents raise them in a dysfunctional family just like the one in the video. When these kids grow up seeing one of their parent being very abusive to the other parent then that kid sometimes hate that parent and choose to cut contacts with them. I myself have met such people in Assam who did that. They even said that when their abusive parent died they didn't feel sad.

Our society villainizes people for cutting contacts with their parents and sending them to old age homes. Many people who've worked in old age homes have told me that most of the time it's the parents who are responsible for that. And that many of these parents were actually very abusive and toxic, when they were young and they raised their kids in a dysfunctional family.

Did anyone of you successfully move out of your toxic parent's house especially when they filed missing report on you after you moved out and the police also sided with them?

I know some women who saved money and then moved out of the house. They even got jobs but then their parents filed missing report on them at the police station. The police tracked them and then forced these women to go back to their parent's house. These police even sided with the parents when these girls complained that they left the house because of abuse. Those women are 18+, legally an adult and as per law, they can live wherever they want to. But it's really sad that these women aren't even getting legal help to escape from them.

And it's even worse when the legal authorities who are supposed to help you aren't helping and are siding with your abusers. They aren't even getting help from the women's commission, in fact they are telling them that if police is already involved in that case then they can do nothing cuz their job is to only inform the police. They aren't even getting help from the NGOs cuz all NGOs aren't good. Those parents are so toxic that they don't even let their daughters earn money on their own and impose too much restrictions on them.

This isn't legal but unfortunately many Indian women are still going through that.

Has anyone of you still moved out of such households in those situations? If yes then how did you do that?

There are some people, who are angry that nowadays many Assamese parents don't want to send their kids to Assamese medium schools. They were complaining how Assamese parents nowadays prefer English medium schools over Assamese medium schools. They said that English medium schools are making the Assamese society westernised, which is leading to the loss of our own identity. They said that people in France, Germany, Japan, Norway, etc don't send their kids to English medium schools, and they're still rich and developed countries so they think that learning English isn't compulsory for development. And that Assamese people can still develop if they want to, without learning English just like France, Germany, etc. They said that Assamese people must be proud of their language and send their kids to Assamese medium schools instead of English medium schools to preserve the Assamese language.

I'm not the one who's criticising Assamese people for choosing English medium schools over Assamese medium schools. I just heard these complaints from some other Assamese people. I'm myself writing this post in English while using a Western social media app with a Western smartphone so it would be hypocritical of me to call out people when I'm doing the same. I have no problem with people who want to send their kids to English medium schools over Assamese medium schools.

Would you send your kids to an Assamese medium school or an English medium school?

In this case, it's not even her fault but still she's getting harassed just for her existence. They are harassing her for something that she can't control. They are jealous that she's young, single and beautiful so they're traumatizing her when they already know she's going through a lot.

Even in 2026, there are people who are continuing this nonsense. Instead of giving support to these women they are choosing to make them suffer more.

Many people take pride that our country has the lowest divorce rate in the world, i.e. 1% and that we have very less number of single mothers. I've observed that the reason behind those low rates are the taboos that are connected to those things. When the society is so immature that they're harassing a widow for something beyond her control then they'll obviously harass someone, who's choosing to seperate from his/her partner.
