I don’t know if I’m being unreasonable here…
I was flying domestically in Australia to then connect on to international. When packing, I had a case of wine to take with me. Given you obviously can’t take a case of wine as carry on due to the fluid restrictions it had to go in the checked luggage.
On collecting my luggage (which had to be collected at the domestic connection for some reason) my bag was absolutely ruined. There were multiple cracks throughout the hard shell case. Annoyingly, the biggest crack had broken one of the bottles of red wine. Qantas have said they will reimburse the suitcase but not the wine or clothing that is covered in red wine.
Now I get that glass is a bit breakable at times. However, the only bottle that broke was directly under the largest crack in the suitcase. All of the bottles were packaged correctly and carefully (think bubble wrap, dividers etc). The bit of the wine bottle that broke was also the thick base of it.
Given none of the other bottles broke I think it shows it’s not so much the inherent fragile nature but more before of Qantas’ mishandling.
Any thoughts, advice, or recommendations?
