AITA: Fiance took her ring back for a swap
I proposed in January after making my fiance go pick out the ring she wanted with a friend and then going back to the store which “took notes” on what she wanted. Upon getting there it was clear some notes were wrong but I knew what she wanted and the store said what I said would work (she wanted a 2.5 karat lab diamond marquise in a setting that would allow a normal flat band to sit flush with the ring) so I ordered it. When it came in it had the wrong prongs and the wrong setting so I got that fixed and then the diamond wasn’t set center or flat so I got that fixed. The second issue was discovered and fixed after proposing btw so I had to get the ring back after giving it to her. All this time later she admits she didn’t think the setting would work with a band so when she went back again last week because the stone was loose she tried on bands to discover she was right and the bands don’t fit like they told me. She’s now worked a deal with the store to fix it but it means they’re making a whole new ring for $300 more that she plans to pay, but I can’t help but be bothered she’s trading the ring I paid $5k for and proposed with in on a new ring just because she doesn’t want one of the bands made for marquise diamonds. Am I being irrational for being upset that she won’t ever have the ring I proposed with again? I just feel betrayed because she always said “I’d be happy with a ring pop” and now she’s not happy with a beautiful ring I paid a fortune for.
