Locked vs Unlocked for writing firmware.
Hey all.
Ordered an x4 from Ali. Fully expecting it to be locked.
No problem, I'll use the unlock tool to flash something. But I'm wondering how risky the wifi update method is.
I plan on writting my own firmwares to get some extra usage out of the x4 but not sure how safe it will be with constant flashing. Another thing on my mind is the WiFi update, when writiting my own firmware, I assume I'm going to need to keep the WiFi update code so when I flash new firmware, I'm not wiping the wifi update code (effectively locking me out of flashing).
From what I can gather, the unlock tool is just a way to update the device using OTA, it doesn't actually unlock the device, is this correct?
Any info would be greatly appreciated so I don't brick my x4 when playing with the firmware.
EDIT:
Ok, my Ali purchase is just going to be an e-reader with Crosspoint. Going to order a second device direct from XTEink for firmware developement.
Feeling stupid... I bought for £42.16 from AliExpress.... It's only £45 direct with the 10% newsletter signup discount. So for the sake of a £3 saving, I lost the ability to dev on it. -_-
