Hello, I work in the F&B department at an ihg hotel in the UK. Recently i have learned that all card tips we receive get divided evenly throughout all of the hotel staff, meaning concierge, reception, managers, and housekeeping staff ALL receive money customers thought they were giving to us, the restaurant staff. The only tips we get to keep to ourselves are cash tips which we divide daily between who is on that day, plus a smaller amount for the kitchen. This is something many of my coworkers and I are upset about, as other departments get to keep their own tips yet the restaurant staff never get to see 90% of what we earned ourselves, with OUR service. I’m looking for any advice on what I can do to advocate for me and my coworkers as complaints to management have gotten us nowhere. Is this common practice for other hotels in IHG? Is there any policy IHG has that bans this? Or should we join a union and if so does anyone have advice on that process? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
