The 2021 AAP Guidelines Shifted the Standard for newborn fever

The 2021 AAP Guidelines Shifted the Standard for newborn fever

Just wanted to put this out there. I am not sure if this is correct. Wanted to see what others will say. Now when googling, google says any fever 3 months under is Medical Emergency. I have talked to my pediatrician they told me in case of a fever a baby that’s 9-12 weeks old, okay to monitor at home. I was surprised so started doing some research!

And this is what I came up with, what are your thoughts? So is it a ED visit for baby that’s 2-3 months old?

The 2021 AAP Guidelines Shifted the Standard [1]
In 2021, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued new, data-driven guidelines for managing febrile infants. [, 2]
The Old Way: Any baby under 3 months with a fever automatically received a "full septic workup," which included invasive blood draws, a catheterized urine sample, and a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), followed by a mandatory hospital admission.
The New Way: Decades of data proved that for "well-appearing" infants between 29 and 60 days old, and especially those over 60 days old, the risk of invasive bacterial infections drops to near zero. Over-testing causes unnecessary pain, medical trauma, and exposure to hospital-acquired germs. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

At night crying 11 week old

My 11 week old started randomly crying at night. She never really cried at night as soon as she’s fussing I would feed her and she would be back asleep. But one night she would cry out a lot for no apparent reason. Did anybody else experience this? She probably cried from 1 AM to 7 AM and she would sleep and then start crying . What could be the reason? I understand it could be gas pain, but I’m pretty sure she had gas pain before, and she never cried.

My baby was recently diagnosed, I started noticing symptoms at 2 weeks and then at 4-6 weeks she started being loud, not much stridor, mainly snorting. Not always either. Her breathing occasionally would be labored but NOT when she was in deep sleep, she also occasionally had chocking episodes when milk would come up with burbs. All these symptoms have now improved. Barely ever choking.

My question is, will this diagnosis really impact her life? Especially when she becomes ill?

I read many stories of how some kids cough is very pronounced, some snore, some have stridor return. Even once they all get older.

What was your experience for those who had mild to moderate diagnosis.

Posted earlier about my 2.5 month old with mild laryngomalacia… got an update from my doc saying it’s most likely moderate laryngomalacia and referred us to ENT.
Her symtoms are; snorty breathing, no strider really… sometimes chocking and coughing, a little bit of labored breathing… though not always, when she’s in her deep peaceful sleep her breathing is good.

I noticed her symptoms right away, as soon as she was born, her breathing was really really fast though they thought it was just amniotic fluid.. but as we went by, I noticed her breathing was still quite fast… starting around six weeks I noticed symptoms of laryngomalacia

Please share your experience, and if your baby had moderate laryngomalacia, by when did they out grow it?

Also worried about her not to aspirate since she throws us and chokes.

Does anyone else experience this? My 10 weeks old, some days just sleeps all day and wakes up for feedings and goes right back to sleep, next day eats all day. This pattern I have noticed every week for the past couple 3 or so weeks.
There is like no normal sleep/eat pattern… It’s all over the place.
Yesterday and today she’s sleeping all night and all day, prior to that, she ate a ton. Same pattern happened last week.

Please tell me that’s Normal and what you have experienced.

(One day I’ll probably look back and wished I didn’t worry so much)

My two month old was just diagnosed with mild Laryngomalacia. Doctor said she’ll outgrow it. Anywhere I’m reading it says they’ll outgrow it by 24 months? That’s a long time!

Anyone experience this? By when do they outgrow it?

Was your child’s breathing loud? What did it sound like?

My baby is so loud and unsettled when sleeping. During the day is worse than at night, but when do they finally start sleeping calmly?

Any tips for day time sleeping? She’s always squirming and grunting and just so not calm!!! Also, as soon as I lay her down she’s up.

She also makes like snorting sounds with breathing, especially when she’s on her back, when I change position for her, it seems to calm down. Anyone else bay does that?

Sister and I live close to each other and in between the two of us. We have a bunch of kids. It’s amazing living next to your sister but feel like every time my kids go to her house. They get sick and bring it home.!
