Installed a 2021+ Style 12” Screen in my 2017 Raptor — My Honest Take After 2 Weeks
I know there are already a ton of posts/reviews on these screens, so I’ll keep this focused on my actual experience using it daily.
I installed the 12” 2021+ style screen (CarABC) in my 2017 Raptor, and overall I’m genuinely happy with it.
The biggest win is how OEM it looks. That was my main concern going in — I didn’t want something that looked like a slapped-in tablet. Once it’s installed, it honestly feels like it belongs there and just modernizes the interior.
Install-wise, it’s not *hard*, but it’s also not completely plug-and-play. There are a couple spots where you need to slow down (especially with the ribbon cable and getting everything seated right). I had a small hiccup during install, but between the instructions and some videos I was able to figure it out pretty quickly. If you take your time, you’ll be fine.
Performance has been solid so far. Since it works through the OEM APIM, everything feels normal — CarPlay, climate controls, responsiveness, etc. I haven’t noticed any lag or major issues after about two weeks of use.
I did have one moment where the screen stayed black, but after letting the truck fully power down (shut it off, get out, lock it), it came back on and has worked perfectly since. No recurring issues.
Only real downside in my experience is that some of the setup (like dialing in the splash screen exactly how you want it) can be a little finicky. Not a dealbreaker, just not perfectly polished.
Overall, if your goal is to update the interior without losing that factory feel, I think it’s a really solid upgrade. I’d buy it again, and I’m interested to see if they push any updates or improvements over time.
**Full transparency:** I did receive a discount on the unit in exchange for making an install video, but I’m not being paid to say anything specific. This is just my honest experience after using it.
Happy to answer any questions if anyone’s considering it.
