Kenwood Excelon low preamp voltage?
I’ve been trying to chase down an issue where you need the head unit at 70%+ volume to really start getting bass. Even with the amp gain set to 60% and the bass boost at max (Previously set by the shop). At half volume the bass is really weak. The subs aren’t underpowered either (2 Kicker CompR 12’s wired to 1ohm @ 1000 watts). I’ve been reading around and I’ve seen quite a few people mention that with these head units, the amp will only see the max output of 5v near full volume. I tried lowering the bass boost back to 0 db on the amp and max out the SW output on the head unit. It’s even worse. If I had the amp gain set back to 50% and bass boost/SW output at 0, you wouldn’t even be able to tell I had subs.
Is there anyway around this or is the Kenwood Excelon DMX709S just a dud? I wouldn’t have thought you’d need a LOC to boost the signal but I’m guessing that’s the next thing to try? Thanks
