Programming drums seems to be a divisive topic. But me and a friend who's a bassist are thinking of starting a slam project with programmed drums, and I wanted to get a general consensus on people's thoughts on programmed drums

My friend, who i've been trying to help become a bigger metal fan, said to me yesterday that THE Black Sabbath, wasn't very heavy, and he didn't enjoy listening to them. Additionally he said that he didn't like that there was so much of a focus on intrumentals. So whats the most humane way I can put him down without any suffering?
