I’m a bridesmaid for a wedding this fall. to get the dress in time, we have to order them in mid July (about 9-weeks before the wedding). I‘ve been losing weight and anticipate that I will lose weight between when I order the dress and the wedding. Because, I can’t really know how many inches I’ll lose or where on my body I’ll lose the weight, I know the dress will need alterations to the actual size of the dress (was already going to need hemmed). The fabric is a satin twill so I don’t want to just get a size down because it is non-stretch and I can’t guarantee I’ll lose exactly a size evenly across my body in those nine weeks.

We are able to choose the style of dress we want to wear so I want to pick one that will be relatively easy to get altered. I’m planning to pick a dress with a fuller skirt and gathering at the waist so hopefully not much will need done to the bottom. When I’m picking a bodice, what should I look for? is it easier to take in and get a proper fitting bodice if there are more panels or less? Would boning make the alterations significantly harder?

I started a glp1 for my A1C and weight loss at the beginning of this year. So far it’s been incredibly helpful and as of this month, I’ve hit the maintenance dose I plan to stay at for at least a while.

In October, my sister is getting married and I’m a bridesmaid. Each bridesmaid gets to pick the style she wants to order from Dessy in the same fabric and color so we coordinate. The website really emphasizes the importance of correct measurements when picking a size because the fabric (a champagne satin) has zero stretch.

Any suggestions for how to guess what size I’ll be when we get to the wedding? The latest we can order our dresses is mid-July to get them in time. I’m planning to wait as long as possible to try to get as close to where I’ll be at the wedding. Has anyone had to have major alterations done to a formal dress because of your weight loss? Was it exceptionally difficult to take in the dress? Am I better off getting one size smaller than what I’m at in July?
