924 distributor? Engine swap?
Hey all! Sorry for this ADHD mess of a post but; I got this 1977 924 from a friend who told me if I could get it running, I could have it.
Well, I got it running long enough to get on a trailer and back to my place and now I am starting the arduous process of acquiring parts...
First and foremost; the bearings in the distributor are 100% shot. I got it running by jiggling, wiggling, and fiddling the distributor, new battery and fuel, and some other minor TLC, and it will run pretty well(lil smoky) for about 10 minutes and then backfire and die out as the distributor slowly wiggles out of timing. I am pretty sure it has some vacuum leaks too but one thing at a time...
The problem is... I looked at Napa, AutoZone, O'Reilly's, hell I even went to the Porsche, Audi, and VW dealerships in town and NOBODY has one ANYWHERE within a 50-mile radius of me. I am in Vegas for work currently and I can't even find one here, although I haven't exhausted every option.
To follow up that question, are there any motor options with more abundant parts that are easily swapped in? I have heard that Audi 5cyl motors will bolt right up, and 944 transaxles are not hard to find around me, so it has been a thought. I also have a 2JZ sitting around that I think would be awesome, but I kinda want to keep my German car, well, German.
What is the best course of action to take here?
