I shortlisted a Honda Activa 5G (2020 model, ~10,000 km driven) on OLX. The seller is asking ₹20,000 and says he works in CISF at Bengaluru airport.
But several things are feeling suspicious:
- He sent me an RC card image, but when I tried checking the vehicle details on the Parivahan website, the chassis number doesn’t match.
- When I asked him about it, he said the showroom owner changed the chassis during purchase and he never fetched the updated RC card from parivahan that's why it is not matching.
- There’s also an alphanumeric number visible on the RC image which is not the vehicle number, and I found the exact same RC image online.
- He says he can deliver the scooty to me after I pay ₹2000 as an “airport transport parking release charge”.
- According to him, I can test ride it for 1 hour and if I don’t like it, he’ll take it back and refund the ₹2000.
- Anyone familiar with this RWA5002128 RC card, this is the image available on internet.
This entire thing feels very fishy to me.
Questions:
Does this sound like a known OLX scam?
Is there any legitimate reason for chassis mismatch on RC?
How can I properly verify the RC, chassis number, and ownership?
I have the scooty photos and RC image he sent me — what are the best ways to verify whether the vehicle is genuine?
If this is a scam, how can I report or expose him safely?
Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve dealt with second-hand vehicle purchases or OLX scams before.
