We all saw the interview where Jaafar stated that the music in the film is a blend of his vocals and his uncle Michael's vocals and that all acapella parts are fully him.
I don't know what to say to that, because based off of my well-trained ears, 94% of the singing vocals past Juliano's act are Michael's. Even the Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough segment, which is the only segment where there is mostly acapella. These are the parts where you can hear Jaafar's voice:
Thriller: He harmonized with Michael when he said "here tonight."
You can also hear him for like 1 second during the part of the chorus where Michael normally said, "would ever".
Ben: You can hear Jaafar sing for a good 3 seconds in the beginning of the song, then the rest is just Michael.
Bad: Jaafar's voice is heard at this part, "Come on, ah, come on
Lay it on me, ah, alright", and here, "justa wait til I get through".
Beat It: "Who's wrong or right". Like 2 seconds of that.
There are just breaths in DSTYGE that you can hear. But that's about it. Technically he's not wrong just based off of my breakdown, but if he fully knew it was mostly Michael's vocals, I believe he should've worded everything a bit differently. When people think of blend, they think of...a homogeneous mix, not a heterogeneous mix. Homogeneous usually means evenly distributed about.
Here's why I think people thought it was Jaafar's vocals: Jaafar's voice fits Michael, despite it being different. I can't really explain this point that much. It just fits. If you heard Michael speak with Jaafar's natural voice, it wouldn't really sound off at all. So Jaafar sounding like Michael and his voice FITTING Michael just makes fans think he's gonna sound JUST like him when it comes to singing. This part probably didn't make sense, but whatever. What are your thoughts?
