
I know this has been removed by Tesla as of late-21. I have severe motion sickness, wish to lower the regen power. Creep stopping mode and chill acceleration did not help at all.
Some people said the S3XY buttons could do? I thought they were just physical buttons for setting shortcuts...
Another concern is related to defensive driving.
Take a junction with bushes on both sides, for example. There are multiple blind spots, and something can appear suddenly. In a traditional fuel car, you can cover the brake with your right foot while passing through. You are not braking or slowing unnecessarily, but your foot is already positioned for an immediate response if something appears. It also reduces the chance of error because your brain does not need to decide which pedal your foot is on.
With strong regenerative braking, there are two issues:
- In a genuine emergency, can you reliably decide you will need to lift up you foot and move it to the brake in a split second? Pedal misapplication accidents happen precisely because people react under pressure and press the wrong pedal.
- Simply lifting off the accelerator may not slow the car enough. You may still need to press the brake firmly, which adds extra reaction time.
So It is about defensive driving in specific high-risk situations where covering the brake with the right foot can reduce reaction time and minimise mistakes. This is another concern I have.
