Stop risking your (or your clients') accounts with 3rd-party unfollower apps. Here’s a safer way.

We’ve all seen the horror stories lately—accounts getting flagged or permanently banned just for checking who unfollowed them. The common denominator? Giving your password to 3rd-party apps that use unauthorized APIs.

As marketers, we know Instagram is cracking down harder than ever on this. But we still need to manage our follow/follower ratio and clean up our lists.

I got tired of the risk, so I built a simple web tool that handles this without ever asking for a login or password.

How it works (The Privacy-First Method):

  1. You request your official "Information Download" from Instagram settings.
  2. Instagram sends you a ZIP file containing your data.
  3. You upload the follower/following files to the tool.
  4. It compares the lists and visualizes exactly who isn't following you back.

Why this is better for marketing accounts:

  • Zero API Risk: You aren't "connecting" anything to your account.
  • No Password Needed: Your credentials stay with you.
  • Data-Driven: It uses the most accurate source—your own official IG data.

I primarily made this for my own projects to avoid the "shadowban" fear, but I figured it could be a useful resource for this community too.

Since I want to respect the sub's rules, I’m not posting the link here. If you're tired of the "sketchy app" cycle and want to try this method, just drop a comment or shoot me a DM and I'll send you the link.

Would love to hear how you guys are currently managing follower audits safely!

A safer way to see who unfollowed you using IG's official data export (No password needed)

I've been seeing a lot of "account suspended" posts lately because people use those shady 3rd party unfollower apps.

Instead of giving away your password, you can actually do this manually (and safely) by requesting your "Information Download" from IG settings. It gives you two JSON/HTML files: "followers" and "following."

I put together a simple page that just compares these two files locally so you don't have to spend hours in Excel. It doesn't require any login info.

If anyone is tired of the risk and wants to try this method, let me know and I'll share how it works in the comments.
