Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice regarding a strange noise my 2010 Jeep Patriot 2.0 CRD is making.
The Symptoms:
• Cold Start: When I start the car in the morning, I hear an asynchronous noise. It’s not a sharp metallic knocking, but rather a deeper, low-frequency sound.
• Neutral & Clutch: The noise only occurs when the car is in neutral and the clutch pedal is NOT pressed.
• Warm-up: After driving for a few minutes and letting the engine reach operating temperature, the noise completely disappears. The engine sounds perfectly normal once warm.
As soon as I press the clutch pedal, the noise goes away even when cold. This makes me strongly suspect the dual-mass flywheel (DMF) is on its way out.
Has anyone with this engine experienced this?
Does this sound like a typical DMF failure, or could it be the release bearing (throw-out bearing) or something else in the transmission?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
