Sudden extreme stud behaviour from a gelding

We purchased a 3 year old welsh/shetland gelding in December to be a companion for our herd of two— one mare, one gelding. He has been an angel both with us on the ground and with my two horses, there seemed to be a perfect pecking order and everyone got along. Suddenly, maybe a week ago, he has started acting very stud-like. It was pretty harmless at first, he would follow my mare around and drop down and act like a stud, but she always told him off and that was that. He also started kicking my other gelding off food which was unusual. Today, I took my gelding out of their shared paddock, leaving the small and my mare. He would not leave her alone and it turned into a full blown fight. I have literally never seen something like this. It was like watching two wild stallions. Both of them were screaming and kicking each other HARD. He was acting like a wild stud and trying to bite her neck and would absolutely not back down even though she was kicking him. He kept chasing her and attacking her and she was literally out to kill him. Please help!!!
