Slept on the same memory foam mattress + box spring setup for 4 years with zero issues.

Renovated the room and stored the mattress + box spring upright on their sides for ~3 months.

When I put everything back together, first time lying on the bed the center support bar in the box spring/foundation (metal, head-to-toe) had snapped at the weld points. I repaired it with L-brackets and it seemed solid.

Ever since returning to this room and using the bed I’ve had consistent mid-back achey pain to the point I sometimes have to sleep in another room.

I also tried adding a 3” firm topper — didn’t really help.

Setup details: • wood bed frame with 3 crossbars left to right (with feet) • Box spring has 3 head-to-toe metal supports + wood slats • memory foam mattress

Possible causes I’m considering: 1. My “fix” on the center support isn’t actually solid and is causing subtle sagging 2. I got used to a different bed for 3 months and need adjustment time 3. Storing the mattress on its side damaged it

Next thing I’m thinking of trying is putting the mattress directly on the floor.

What do you think is the most likely cause and how would you troubleshoot it?
