Me (19M) and my girlfriend (21F) have been dating officially for almost 8 months. Before that, we were in a situationship for around 3 months.
During the situationship, we agreed that we weren’t exclusive. However, I asked her that if she did get with someone else, she would tell me, and she agreed.
Yesterday, while we were drinking, she let slip that she had slept with a friend about a month before we became exclusive. She had never told me at the time. What bothers me most is that, both before and after it happened, I had directly asked her multiple times whether there was anything going on between them or whether they had slept together, and she denied it each time.
I believed her. She later admitted she didn’t tell me because she knew I would probably stop seeing her if I found out.
After learning this, I told her I wanted to go on a break to rethink the relationship, because I feel like I’ve lost a lot of trust in her. I know we weren’t officially exclusive at the time, so I don’t care about that, but I do feel hurt that she lied to me repeatedly after agreeing to be honest.
I’m stuck on what I want to do as I really like the girl, but I also know it will take me a lot of time to fully trust her again and I don’t know how much effort she’d be willing to put in as we’re both coming up to quite busy times of year. What do you think I should do?
Edit: Just to be clear, we made the agreement (mutually between us) to tell each other mainly for health reasons (not wanting to spread stds to each other). Second, I’m not in any way upset with her over her getting with someone, just that she lied to me abt it.
TL;DR: My girlfriend and I weren’t exclusive during our situationship, but she agreed to tell me if she slept with someone else. I later found out she had slept with a friend before we became official and lied about it on a few occasions when I asked. I’m hurt because it feels like a breach of trust, and I’m considering taking a break to rethink the relationship.
