There is a user who has been active in this sub and countless other similar subs and I want people to beware of them since this is a vulnerable space. If you see a reply from someone who types out a web address to a website that they recommend and say something about how it “explains emotional manipulation/relationships/etc. really well”…please know that they are linking to their own content.
They appear to have a masters in psychology but will either play up or down their credentials depending on what’s convenient for them. I tried explaining to them how inappropriate it was to continuously link to their own content and say how great it is without ever disclosing that it’s *theirs*. They did not seem to understand why this could be problematic or why abuse victims would be bothered by it.
They've also created posts in this sub where they ask questions and sometimes vaguely say that they’re “creating something“, but they don’t disclose that they’re just karma farming to create content for their website and social media, which they will later link back to as a reputable and “research-backed“ resource.
What I found most disturbing is that in some posts where they link to their own content, they deliberate try to act unfamiliar with the terms on the website to give the impression that they just happened upon it and it’s a wonderful resource. Another thread also showed this user trying to persuade person *three times* to “check out those links” (their own website) and actively steering the person away from other, more reputable resources, suggesting that the website is more ”research-backed“.
I feel like this kind of forum is the absolute last place for that type of manipulation and I don’t want anyone to be duped by it. Especially not by someone who claims to be educating people about recognizing emotional abuse. The sheer audacity.
