Antabuse questions

Hey reddit fam,

I just had a couple of questions about disulfram/antabuse.

I JUST got put on 500mg starting dose.. (it was so hard to find a pharmacy that actually had it bc they're telling me it's discontinued?!?! 🫪)

Anyway, how long since your last drink would it be safe to start? I tried asking the pharmacist and he really didn't understand what I was asking. (didn't really speak good English)

Today is my birthday, and I am going to go out to dinner and POSSIBLY have my LAST DRINK, so if I do that, would I be okay to start this medication Monday? Haven't drank but like every other day maybe 2-6 shots compared to my usual 14+ a day for the last two months... I know that sounds crazy but I'd appreciate no judgment ... So does that come into play when trying to take Antabuse?!? 😭😭 I stopped drinking that heavy probably about a week ago bc I seriously want out of this hellish destructive lifestyle.

The last thing I want is to take this medicine and end up in the emergency room. It's terrifying..

So what's everyone's experience?

Is there anything I should avoid while on this medication?

What should I expect?

Literally any kind of input would greatly help me right now.

Thanks in advance. ♥️

Ready to kick this alcohol thing in the ass. 💪

Hey guys,

I have an appointment scheduled for 5/5 to get on Antabuse ( I already talked to the provider and he briefly said he'd be willing to prescribe it), I was just wondering if I took weed gummies on it, or vaped nicotine on it if I'd have any adverse effects? Mostly worried about nicotine, I only use Geek bar vapes. VERY RARELY do I take weed gummies (although I have my med card for it)

Also, is 4 days sober enough to be okay to take Antabuse, or would I need more sober time?

I'm choosing to get on Antabuse because the other meds they've given me, I literally just drank on, but drank harder bc I know I could. 😭

I'm at the place in my life now (a year later after taking vivitrol) that I want to stop completely... I start IOP in 14 days, and I was hoping the antabuse would prove/hold me accountable in not drinking. I want sobriety so bad and if I know I PHYSICALLY cannot drink or I'll die, I think that's gonna be enough for me...

Any advice is totally welcomed.
