So my wife started working as a daycare teacher assistant in Florida in a small privately owned daycare(hispanic centric), she did all the hours required before starting. She paid for her tests and passed them. Then, she was required to do a CPR course which she paid out of pocket ($65) ok fine. Then, some more online training to do at home (sounds fishy but OK, it’s at home, whatever she wants to keep her job) but now they’re claiming there’s another “mandatory” training (only for the new inexperienced teachers). Said training is to take place on six straight Saturdays (her day off), 30 min away from 8:45-1pm and it has homework (wtf?). They claim this is mandatory (I call b.s) and unpaid. I think this is just illegal and the training is probably NOT mandatory and they’re just trying to take advantage of the teachers not pushing back. My wife is scared to lose her job but we only have one car, I have a second job on weekends, and she’s just exhausted by the end of the week, this is so unfair and infuriating. What can we do in this situation?
