I’m deciding between NYU and Vanderbilt and would appreciate some advice. I got into NYU Gallatin as an MLK Scholar, which seems like a strong leadership program with research and service opportunities, but my cost would still be around $45k–48k per year. For Vanderbilt, I received a merit scholarship and based on my financial situation (single parent, 7-person household), I’m expecting around $28k–32k per year, so it’s significantly cheaper. If I were to go to Vanderbilt, I’m planning to double major in economics and political science and am interested in business and pre-law (possibly IP law in fashion/beauty). At NYU I would try to internally transfer to Stern, but I know that’s not guaranteed. I’m wondering if the MLK Scholars Program is actually a big advantage in terms of networking and opportunities, how realistic the Gallatin to Stern transfer is, and whether NYU is worth the extra cost compared to Vanderbilt for long-term career outcomes. Would really appreciate any honest input.
