If It Had Happened Otherwise: Turn 3

News

Europe: In a dramatic and unexpected collapse, an attempt to rectify the Kaiser’s mental incapability via a regency has ended in disaster. The regency has been split between the so called Poppies. The Poppies of Belarus, lead by the regional governor of Belarus, have couped the government and removed from official power the Poppies of Somerset, lead by the ex governor of Somerset who defected to the Germans some time ago. Russia, Spain, southern France, Slavia, and large portions of Ukraine have sided with the Somersets against the de facto coup. They claim the Belarussian government illegal due to their violent removal of the the Somersets from power. Meanwhile the Belarussians claim the Somersets illegal since the Kaiser is controlled by the Bellarussians. Polish separatists rise up, allegedly siding with the Somersets, but in reality pursuing their own aims for a free and independent Polish monarchist state. German rule in Africa, already stretched to its limits, finally snaps and Africa explodes into civil war. Belgian revolutionaries rise up to overthrow the new de facto oligarchy that has been established. The rest of the lowland ripples with unrest as police struggle to keep the population in submission. Italian nationalists rise up, declaring San Marino their capital. The kaiser’s child has begun a massive power struggle behind the scenes, his supporters trying to gain leverage over the poppies and re-establish order in Europe. The vultures circle over the Ordnung. The eagle of Europe lies bloodied and battered, wings broken, fighting with itself, as its enemies circle ever closer. Will the Ordnung survive?

Asia: Crisis strikes in Japan! An assassin has breached the royal palace in Tokyo, and brutally murdered the emperor. The guards who came in on the scene describe with horror how “his chest was split open and spread out like a butterfly. His heart stood impaled in the centre of his eviscerated gut. His head was pulverised and spread across the wall and floor, and his legs and arms had been beaten and broken.” The Jap[anese are yet to hold a coronation, but they assure the rest of the world that the heir is alive and well, merely currently on holiday in a remote region of Tibet for her peace of mind. The assassination seems to have been motivated by Japanese suppression and near genocide of LGBTQ+ community in China. Riots continue in Xinjiang and Tibet, despite the best efforts of the law.

North America: A government is at last elected in the USA, although some criticise their leaning towards the as of yet untested policy of socialism. Confederates have difficulty keeping control of Mexico and Central Americaaaaahhhh god I am so f*cking tired I wanna die

I can’t be bothered to write much more tbh so this is what you get. Africa is still getting worse, you get the picture. I’m tired.

If It Had Happened Otherwise: Turn 2

News

Europe: As the Grand Kaiser of the Neue Ordnung slips further into madness, his empire crumbles around him. Caucasia declares full independence after an attempted genocide by the Ordnung. The forces sent to undertake the purge mutiny and side with Caucasian rebels. The Ordnung’s already stagnant economy is threatened by Egyptian restrictions on the Suez, and is being strained by the distant war in Russia. Tensions rise between the ESA and the Ordnung as the now quite made kaiser declares Bath the capital of the empire. This is exacerbated by the Ordnug beginning mobilisation of their land, air, and sea forces, leaving many in the Anglican sphere worried about a potential war.

Asia: Rebel factions in the CAR make stunning advances, despite the best efforts of the beleaguered defenders. The rebels are well armed and well trained, and quickly put down their enemy in most battles. The situation is not aided by the Kaiser officially declaring that Germany recognises the rebels as the official government of the CAR, and refusing to send support. The CAR has begun making moves supporting nationalism, teaching the languages of Central Asia rather than German as is ordered by the Ordnung. Both Japan and German Russia have finally decided to invade the buffer state of the Russian Empire, a surprising move given the already high global tensions. Japanese forces already fight with the remnants of the Russian army outside of Novosibirsk. Japan’s naval might has grown considerably, but fails to catch up with the ESA. Japanese Russia experiences unrest, and rebels clash with the military. Protesters march in Japanese dominated Tibet and Xinjiang

North America: British troops move in to secure control as anti confederate movements begin to take hold in Central America, and fighting breaks out between the British and the well armed and motivated independence movements. Mexico is given an unprecedented degree of autonomy, becoming only a little short of a protectorate. US elections fail to produce a ruling coalition after democratic support plummets due to a presidential scandal. Elections are to be re-held.

South America: The Guyanas gain a degree of independence, and SAEDU expands to incorporate Columbia.

Africa: Egypt secures greater independence from the British, drifting further from the Anglican sphere. They declare a blockade of Germany ships in the Suez, refusing to allow any through. This only enhances difficulties being felt in German North African territories, as police struggle to keep riots under control. British colonial possessions remain unruly but obedient.

If It Had happened Otherwise NRP: Turn 1

News

Europe: Germany continues to ignore the ever rising threats to its hegemony of Europe and Central Asia. Continued riots break out in the Caucasus as the corrupt German elite fail to address the concerns of the population.

Asia: The Japanese empire forms an agreement with wealthy families to help fund a large expansion of the Imperial Navy. This only serves to increase tensions between the English Speaking Association and the Japanese Empire in the Pacific. Japan and Bangladesh formalise the Bengali entrance into the East Asian Co Prosperity Sphere, the commonly accepted term for Japan’s sphere of puppet states in China and Oceania. Tensions in the Central Asian Republics escalate as the population strains against the constraints placed upon it by the ruling German minority. Protesting has begun to spill over into rioting, and reports are coming in of police stations being overrun. The rioters seem to have obtained high quality weapons and training, and riot police are unused to dealing with such opponents.

Africa: The Kingdom of Egypt continues to push for greater and greater independence from the Anglican Colonial Empire as protests in the Congo and South Africa escalate ever more. Germany is not free from such issues either, as police and army headquarters in Libya, Tunisia, and eastern Algeria continue to be attacked by separatists, with two more terror bombings in the last six months.

North America: Mexican separatism continues to rise as yet another batch of weapons is stolen from under the nose of the CSA. Central America continues to drift further from the Anglican sphere, despite the best efforts of the ESA.

South America: as the rest of the world smokes and smoulders, ready to burst into flame, South America stands as a beacon of hope, unity, and cooperation as Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia form the South American Economic and Diplomatic Union, or SAEDU.

Just to get it out the way: yes this is absolutely bullshit mental lore. Blame Churchill, he wrote the original scenario. With that out of the way:

After Lee’s crushing victory at Gettysburg, he and his army marched to the capital, where they installed him as the new president of the Confederate States of America. His first order was the immediate abolition of slavery, and the freeing of all slaves in the nation. Without the moral cause of abolishing slavery, Lincoln was forced to make peace with the CSA, and recognise their independence, as the British were now prepared to send aid to a slaveless CSA.

In order to regain some dignity, and to show the American public that they were still force to be reckoned with, America joined the Japanese when they went to war with the Russian empire. This, combined with the enormous force that the liberal revolutionaries in the west of Russia managed to bring to bear, lead to the surrender of the Russians to their enemy. With their army enlarged and well trained from the war, Japan would go on to dominate China after the civil war began, and quickly became the dominant force of Asia.

Meanwhile in Europe, war was brewing. The British and both of the Americas were worried that they would become embroiled in a conflict they couldn’t handle. As such they formed the English Speaking Association: a military and economic alliance between the three most powerful English speaking nations. When war eventually did break out in Europe, the ESA declared total neutrality in the affair, and allowed Germany to dominate the continent. They only became involved again when the Germans and Ottomans began fighting over the collapsing remains of Austria-Hungary, propping up the Ottomans to prevent a total German victory.

Germany would go on to form the Neue Europaische Ordnung, or New Europen Order: a nation uniting Germany and all of its vassal regimes under one banner. Theoretically it is an equal union, but in reality it is merely a rubber stamp on Germany’s authority over the continent. This would be the start of the great game of politics played between the three major powers: Germany, Japan, and the ESA. Japan would win out in East Asia against both an ESA invasion and a German funded rebellion in their Chinese puppets, whereas Germany would come to dominate Central Asia, integrating fully the Central Asian Republics into the NEO, and funding a near total collapse of the Anglican Raj. The ESA would perform poorly overall, but would remain strong and relevant, especially in Africa where they generally had the upper hand over Germany. The so called “Silent War” would be, nominally, ended after decades of fruitless conflict.

Today, on January 1st in 1960, the world stands in a precarious state. The member states of the NEO are growing more autonomous, Japan’s grip over Asia weakens by the day, and riots break out in the streets of Anglican colonies. It would take but a spark to set light to the powder keg that is this world. Will you be the one to light it?
