Sensitivity post crown

Had a cavity underneath an old filling. Didn’t even know I had a cavity until I got x-rays done at my check up. I’ve never been to this dentist before (recently switched insurances), and I have incredible anxiety surrounding physical health and procedures. I was told during this filling I would need a root canal, but then my dentist said he managed to clean out the cavity just before reaching the root. You can see how close the filling is to my root in the x-ray. I attached a picture of the cleaned out cavity along with the x-ray of my filling and crown. It’s been two weeks, and I’m still having pressure sensitivity on that tooth, especially when eating crunchy or sticky foods. I know it was a pretty deep cavity, and I was expecting some sensitivity- despite the fact my dentist said I shouldn’t experience any sensitivity which I thought was crazy. I had a bit of a breakdown/panic attack, and I’m so worried they told me I didn’t need a root canal just so I didn’t get too overwhelmed, especially since I was initially only going in for a filling, not a crown. Is the pressure sensitivity normal? Is the x-ray and photo indicative of needing a root canal? Was the dentist right to not recommend a root canal? Should I spend the extra money and go back to my old dentist that has all my records? Need a little advice.
