Now that we've had a lot more information, what do we make of the animal motifs?
The animal Motif's have always been a large part of Eden's Garden, they're very visible on every character's design, and now that we know more about them (Whether backstory or in-game actions) I'm curious what to make of a lot of them.
Some are obvious of course, Eva's was (if I'm recalling correctly) a big influence on her design with an old legend of a crow that was turned black due to smoke from fire and played a big role in her execution (being burned), though it's also likely a lot of the reasoning for her animal motif was altered due to her role in the story having been majorly altered since the original inception.
Damon's has always felt obvious as the Serpent in the Garden of Eden and as the "Devil's Advocate" being the one who says what no one else is willing to point out.
Wolfgang is a sacrificial lamb as well as a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.
Diana's like a chameleon and will adapt, etc.
Toshiko's a Flamingo which have a whole romance and elegance motif, which I guess is the extent of it.
Honestly past that I don't really get the rest of them.
I guess I can see Desmond as Shark, Ulysses as Owl, Wenona as Bear, Kai as Butterfly, Mark as an Alligator and Cassidy as a Spider though a lot of these feel more surface level with what we know.
Grace, Ingrid, Jett, and Eloise feel like I'm still missing a lot of information.
When I think of symbolism Coyotes are wise trickster and Jett is dumb as bricks.
Bunnies are bouncy little guys and symbols of good-luck, Grace is an asshole who's boytoy dies instantly.
Lions are notoriously representative of Pride and Royalty, I guess I can see a more literal interpretation of Lion's have big packs they take care of and Ingrid is like the responsible mother character.
Jean is a Dragon? Like the greedy evil monsters that horde wealth and burn villages. I guess I can see him protecting his crew like a dragon protects it's horde but like idk.
Eloise's actually occured to me whilst in the midst of writing this. Swan's have a large love motif, and are known in myth to be with one partner until death. Eloise dies immediately following the death of Desmond the person she was closest to.
There's almost an argument to be made that everyone is sort of the opposite of their animal motifs.
Diana fails to adapt to the situation, becoming more like Wolfgang and following in his failed footsteps.
Owl's are known to be wise and Ulysses dies due to letting power get to his head and letting history repeat itself.
Coyote's are wise and Jett's dumb as fuuuck
Sheep are known to be pure and Wolfgang was a deeply flawed fraud.
Snake's are known to be traitors and deceivers and yet Damon is the one speaking hard truths the others don't want to hear.
Lion's are known for their pride and Ingrid died sacrificing herself to save others.
Sharks are seen as mean predators but Desmond's death is one to save the person he loves (though his character development does seem like he would end up being an asshole)
Crow's are known to be Mysterious and Wise which Eva sought to be but ultimately her lies just ended up leaving her isolated and mocked.
There's maybe more to this but I'm just curious what everyone's takes are on the Animal Motif's after all the information we've gained. I just needed to rant about this because I haven't seen a lot of discussion about this.
